Hey, it's been such a long time, really ): So it's the new year, 2012 already. Hmm, i feel old already.
2011 has been a rather gratifying year in the sense that everything went pretty well without any major hiccups. Of course, i couldn't have went through this year without the help and support of my three besties, Ennen, Rebe and Dallia!
Just a few weeks ago, Rebe suggested that we head over to the newly-built Feresson Town for some end-year shopping. We've all heard great about the new Feresson Town which houses many
factory outlets of household names, like GAP, Levis, Mango etc. It would def be a great way to get our hands on some new stuff along with the festive sale! However, I suggested that we could do an audit of the clothes that each of us have, as it would give us a clearer idea on what we really need and avoid the frustration of realising that we have similar items at home. Initially, i was rather afraid that the idea would not resonate among the rest of them, but all of them were surprisingly cool about it! Dallia mentioned that she always felt that she was doing 'aimless shopping' and just buying for the sake of it, and we couldn't agreed more. And we could plan each others' xmas presents better!
So, we spent a very happy sunday afternoon rummaging through our wardrobes at each others' house. It all went very systemetically and we were done in...5 hours. To my surprise, I realised that i was second in rank for the most number of clothes items, with Rebe being first! I mean, her cupboard was practically over-spilling, totally resembling the one from Confessions of a Shopaholic. Actually, i realised that most of my items were rather...unexpected. I totally didn't realise that i had three pairs of apple bottom jeans from BOOT. I reckoned i had only bought one and the rest were probably gifts! There were also a lot of paraphernelia and accessories from Aunt Kellie in Singapore. I have from her several long-sleeved zipper shirts, some bandage skirts, cotton on crop tees, gray baggy shirts and one navy blue harem pants. I guess this is the trend in Singapore now? Oh, and not to forget the christmas present from Aunt Kellie who went to India last december! She delivered a really pretty red and yellow toga-ree dress, which was explained to be a fusion of the conventional toga and the modern sari, i love it so much :):) Hmm, you know how Indians wear their sari and cover one shoulder with a patterned fabric that also goes round their lower body? The toga-ree was fashioned to resemble that with a very clean and bold shoulder line and that red almost silky fabric was made to be the outer lining of the entire lower part of the dress! The under layer was a dreamy yellow hue that was rather tight-fitting. So it was a really gorgeous piece! Actually i feel kind of bad as i didn't really give much thought to her christmas present but hastily purchased a box of chocolates and a sheepskin diary at the eleventh hour. Still, she e-mailed me and thanked me for the gift, so i hope she genuinely enjoys it ;)
Actually after we were done with Rebe's audit, we felt so envious that we almost wanted to ban her from the trip to Feresson Town. I mean she has so MUCH already. According to the audit, she has 324 items!!! Her shoes took up almost one-third of that amount, i mean she probably has every single colour and design from the high-end shops. We asked her to pick her favourite, and she was absolutely spoilt for choice. In the end, she chose this leopard print black suedes and explained how it was timeless and matches with almost everything, which we agreed in unison. A few secs later, she amended her choice when she set her eyes on this MANIK-lo strappy kitten heels. See, get what i mean! Rebe also has the most amazing collection of jewelery. It's breath-taking actually when you get them all out and display them properly. Her jewelery has grown out of her storage chest, or should i say trunk? and we spent a good half hour sorting through the mangled earrings, necklaces, bracelets, trinklets, hair pins, hair bands and so on. When we found this dream catcher necklace, we practically gasped in delight. It's similar to the one that has been on the best-seller rack on Topshop, and when it was launched, there was actually a waiting list and we had thought about joining it but were advised not to by this strange woman in a grey suit. She told us that she had joined one previously, after a CK suit, and fell into a scam. The people informed her that after removing those who had pulled out from the waiting list, there were about 20 odd people left and an auction was to be held. However, a deposit of $500 was to be paid to attend the auction as it is to ensure that everyone turns up and that a fair auction could be held. So she transfered the money over, and went to the designated venue but there was no auction at all! Obviously, she was furious and called up but she was informed that the auction had ended within the first minute as a telephone bidder had offered $2000 for the suit, which retail price stays at $600. The worst thing was she was told that she would not get back her deposit as she had not actually showed up on time and the auction ended when she arrived so she was deemed as 'not showing up' for the auction. We were mortified after hearing about it and so decided against joining the waiting list.

Probably only a week ago, Rebe, Dallia, Ennen, Lydelle and i travelled to Ontario for the weekend! Our main purpose was to introduce Lydelle to Canada and bring her about some sight-seeing. And how could we forget Niagara Falls!

So, the first thing that we did was to take a ride on the Maid of the Mist boat. The scenery was awesome, the grand pails of water gushing down next to us, with the constant mist forming around us. We snapped alot of pictures during our ride. Hah, we were quite wet by the time we got off the boat. In the afternoon, we visited the souvenier shop and Lydelle bought a couple of magnets and keychains for her family. The rest of us didn't get anything though. After that, we went on board the Niagara Helicopter! It was such a wonderful scenic experience, viewing the waterfall from such a height. It was simply breath-taking. Next, we visited the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Musuem, it was so scary! I remembered that the 5 of us were holding each other's hands when we entered. I was holding Lydelle's hand on the right and Ennen on the left. Everytime we saw something terrifying, Ennen would be the first to scream, sparking off a chain effect within us! Thinking about it, it was quite funny. I remembered seeing this realistic looking shrunken head and some two-headed creature. You really gotta see it to believe it!

And what is a trip without shopping? We passed by Military Road, and we entered Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls. As the name suggests, we did some real shopping. Lydelle bought the most, but with many items for her family of course! The five of us decided to buy a friendship identity to mark this memorable day and we settled for a blue and white striped watch from Banana Republic ;)

Finally, we had dinner at Coco's Steakhouse where all of us ordered veggie pizzas and jacket potatoes. After that hearty meal, we walked around somemore, taking more pictures of the scenery for keepsake and camwhored! It was such a great day. Hopefully Lydelle, like all of us had enjoyed herself too!

Hello! Life's been going quite okay lately. It's still really really cold here, i've been wearing like 5 or 6 layers out lately.

Some good news: There is a new student in my calculus class and she's from Singapore! She's called Lydelle Tan Cai Ying. And she's really cute and pretty! Apparently, she moved here to stay with her grandmother as her parents are constantly busy with their jobs back in Singapore. But, it was still such a great time to talk to her, and how we miss the hot weather when it's freezing, and how we miss the local delicacies! I introduced her to Rebe, Dallia and Ennen too, and all of them welcomed her invitingly. I hope that she will fit in very well!

Last weekend, i followed my mum to the art exhibition in the town. I have always enjoyed art exhibitions, especially controversial art and art of other media forms, and this art exhibition didn't fail me! I will not go into details about each art piece, as it might be pretty boring. But it was definitely a great experience immersing myself in art of different forms!

Agenda next week: Travelling to Ontario with Lydelle and gang for NIAGARA FALLS!

Freezing Christmas, maybe not so, but definitely a GREAT christmas! And, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

I think Christmas was really fulfilling this year, not in the sense of materialistic presents, but of learning to give and share and help. I think it really means sharing your happiness and joy with others, and at the same time keeping close to faith and learn to forgive and forget. This year brought new purpose for Ennen's family, as they've decided to adopt a child from Bethany's Orphanage. The child is a 9-year-old blonde. She was sent to the orphanage when her mother died while giving birth, while her father simply went missing. Originally, she was taken care of by her only kin, her grandmother, but she had died of old age just a year ago. Mr McGowan had decided to change her name from Sherra to Elise McGowan. Ennen had told me that Elise was elated to have her new name, as Sherra was simply a name given by the nuns from the orphanage as she reminded them of the actress of the same name. Such great act of love is simply rare and hard to find nowadays. I am really inspired by Mr and Mrs McGowan for being so compassionate and caring.

Therefore, following the adoption, Dallia and i had decided to visit the orphanage to help out today. We reached in the morning, only to see the adorable children learning to sing christmas carols with the caretakers. Glimpsing through the window, a surge of emotions passed by me. In this fast-paced, competitive and harsh society, it is almost impossible to find the busy slowing down their footsteps to experience love and faith. People have been too caught up with their lives, caring only about monetary matters, even christmas seems to have been downplayed. Money seems to be the only thing holding our society now. The visit to the orphanage really left me in deep thought. As the orphanage is Ireland-based, many of the children hail from the war-torn Northern Ireland. Differences between different religions have caused plenty to flee, and childrens to lose their parents in the war. Thus, some of the homeless children would be sent here to seek refuge and to have a chance of being with a family again. Many children in the orphanage had only one simple wish. For those who were separated from their family as it was simply unsafe for them to remain in the country, wished that their family would be safe and to be reunited again. For those who have lost their parents in the war, had hoped for a family to take them in. Some instead prayed for strength to go through this ordeal and to eventually take down the army which had brought violence to their country. While many of us here enjoy a hearty dinner with our families on this day, these kids have to suffer something so heart-wrenching and painful at a young age. Count your blessings, people.

After that, we headed to Ennen's terrace for a visit. Rebe was already there when Dallia and i arrived. Our first impression of Elise was that she looked nothing like an orphan. Dressed in a pink flower dress, she jumped around and laughed and did all the normal stuff that a kid her age would have done. It was heart-warming to know that she was fitting in well, and leading a happy life. However, we soon found out that Elise had required lots of persuading and nudging to open up. The first day with the family was spent rather gloomily with the McGowans trying very hard to communicate with the shy and quiet Elise. She had a rather bad recollection of her grandmother passing away in her sleep, when she only had her all her life. Nonetheless, a few days later and some adjusting to the new family did the trick, and the family began to see more smiles and laughter from her. After a sumptous lunch of fish and chips, Rebe, Dallia, Ennen and i decided to rent a dvd to watch in my house. We ended up watching old films, White Chicks and Material Girls. We also had The Devil Wears Prada, but the disc didn't fit, so we skipped that one and went on with our gift-exchanging!

This Christmas, lovely gifts for all the lovelies! For Rebe, i got her a pair of Guess silver stilettos, perfect with the glittering little straps and shiny silver hue. For Ennen, i think i got her something she had always wished for, the limited edition teal pashmina shawl! I had saw it online, left with only piece, and didn't even think twice before i clicked the 'Buy' button. In addition to that, i also got her a new pair of yellow headphones from gAGa. And Dallia! I had saw this really cool and slouchy beanie and knew immediately that it would be a perfect addition to your extensive headgear collection. Plus, the beanie always looks good on her and her bob ;) That's not the end, i also added in a vintage charms bracelet that i had handpicked the charms myself!

And the gifts from the lovelies! From Rebe, i had received this furry pink fairy 2011 planner, complete with a pink ball-point pen adorned with a pink fluffly ball. In it, there were 10 pages of decoration stickers, each sticker different from the other! I just love all these fancy and gorgeous stuff, thank you Rebe! And to my amazement and excitement, Ennen had got me this totally fantastic, wonderful and brand new polaroid camera!!! I had wanted something like this for a long time, but didn't really express my thoughts to others before. Hence, it was such a surprise to receive it, and in the orange and yellow shade i desired for! Thank you, ENNEN! And lastly, i received this super cool silver ribbon necklace, complete with ribbon earstuds, that i know i must wear it out one day! Thank you, Dallia! I love all you, lovelies ;) and Merry Christmas again!

A month isn't that long, i'm getting better at this ;)

Remember i mentioned that Eleste was due for auditions on 1 December? Before i spill the beans, let me describe the entire day. It was quite a big thing and the last few days of november were spent rather in a frenzy. My mum managed to help her get this dude who does awesome facials, and make your skin look radiant and glowing using some herbal home-made formula. It did wonders for her skin. The day before the audition, we had all spent the afternoon at Ennen's housing choosing her outfit for the next day. In the end, we settled for something simple- a sleeveless olive green polly frock ;)

Ennen, Rebe and i had all decided to follow Eleste to the audition. When we reached the headquarters for seventeen, we were blown away. Now, this is the real devil. At first, we had expected something more welcoming, probably a friendly-looking receptionist who will show us around patiently and provide some encouragement. But what we saw was a reality check. Heels clucking around, mannequins being pushed from room to room, phones of all sorts of ringing tones buzzing away. None of the people in the place actually gave us a look. And then, we realised that the modelling world is the survival of the fittest. Nonetheless, we managed to find our way to the holding area with the help of a lady. After Eleste registered her name, we took our seats. There had to be at least thirty people in this room, all for the audition, with many of them possessing unbelievable poise and beauty. We broke off our reverie when the person sitting next to us extended her arm and introduced herself as Ariel Turner. After Eleste shook her hand welcomingly, both of them had a light conversation. We found out that Ariel is actually a very fun and bubbly person, who kept on smiling. She is petite and sported a trendy bob. And she had pouty lips that strongly resembled those of Angelina Jolie. Well, well, a second look at the people brought about new fear for the audition. In this place, Eleste isn't the only one who has something wow, it seems that everyone here is here precisely due to the fact that they were as wow or more wow than Eleste. After waiting for quite some time, more sassy individuals turned out, each one not failing the one before. This was going to be tough.

Not long after, a stout guy walked in and the room immediately turned silent. He placed his professional-looking black clipboard on the table and cleared his throat. He introduced himself as Dieder and related some information that we knew beforehand to us. The first to go was Ariel, due to the list being in alphabetical order, she flashed Eleste and the rest of us a nervous smile before she walked in. It was around 10mins before the second person was called out. Eleste was finally called out. We went to the second holding area where those who have finished the audition were to be. After some time, Eleste finally walked in, flashing us a big smile, in which we understood it to be one of confidence. She immediately went on the details. Once she was in the room, she was given 3mins to choose an outfit from the rack and change into it. She had to choose from a large variety and in the end she chose a red halterneck dress, which she thought would suit her best. After she wore the outfit, she was asked to catwalk down a mock red carpet, given different situations based on the outfit she chose. After that, she had to take a set of 6 studio shoots. This time, no instructions was given, but to present your best, and most natural image to the photographer. It seemed like it was a great success, Eleste had did her best.

One by one, more and more people who have went through the audition trickled in. Finally, we recognised the last girl on the list, Vivien, coming in. She closed the door and told us that Dieder will be coming back in 5mins. It was the longest 5mins we have ever waited. Finally, the door swung open and Dieder walked in. He flashed a smile and asked us how was the audition. Many girls whined and commented about what they should and should not have done. He said 'This 8 photos i have in hand are the top 8 studio shoots of this audition and also those who have been selected. However, remember that each person had 6 studio shoots? This means that if more than 1 shoot was selected from a same person, it also means that we will have less than 8 models appearing in our magazine.' Many gasped and gave looks of horror. He continued, 'This is life, girls. But...we don't have such a case happening here this time.' Many girls heaved a sigh of relief, glad that they still had a chance. 'Now, i will explain more, the catwalk you've done is for the three lucky ones to be chosen for a contract. The one for the Christmas season is what you've done for the studio shoot. So, even if you screwed up the catwalk, you might be one of the 8. Or if you've done badly for the studio shoot, it means that you still have a chance for the contract. If you've done badly for both, then goodbye.' He had punched the last word harshly into the air, causing a unusual tension in the air.

The atmosphere became normal when he happily flashed the photos in his hand, signalling that he was going to announce the results. 'First Girl! Long, blonde hair. Sharp nose. In a cute pink tube and jeans. Ruth Grenwen!' The girl shrieked and went up to receive her studio shoot. Four more girls passed by, each one looking as happy as the one before. 'Now, fifth girl! Long, brown hair, such hollow eyes. Wearing a lovely red halterneck dress. Eleste McGowan!' We all screamed when we heard her name. After Eleste went up to receive her studio shoot from Dieder, we planted her with kisses and hugs. And the studio shoot was amazing, the red halterneck dress accentuates her long slender figure, while driving attention away from her slightly slouchy shoulders. Her long, chestnut brown hair flows breezily along with her, landing just before her elbow. In all, she looked natural yet professional. We were all proud at her for her achievements. Following her, a blonde girl went up and the last two places were given to Vivien and Ariel. Many that were not chosen started tearing, while other hopeful ones kept their fingers crossed that they might be one of the three. 'Okay, now we will move on to the three lucky ones to sign a contract with seventeen. I will make this short and sweet. Simply, i will read out the three names.' Everyone went silent again. We soon found out that they were Megan Holister, Faye Pitter and Ariel Turner. Although Eleste didn't get the contract, we were still elated that she was selected for the Christmas photoshoot.

Later, we had more information and found out that the 8 chosen ones will receive an exclusive 2 day training camp. In this camp, they will gain more insight on how to be a model, and learn about styling and make-up. It also featured a sleepover at one of the function rooms in the headquarters to allow the 8 models to bond. The camp started on 3 Dec and Eleste came back in the night of 4 Dec, bubbling with details to share with us. It was not something that could be explained detailedly in words. To sum it all, they learnt everything about being a model, from the hair to the make-up. To make it more exciting, seventeen even invited one of their alumni models, Laura Campbell to have a lesson with them on cat-walking.

The schedule was very tight, and they were due for the Christmas photoshoot on the next day. It went great, and we could only wait to see those wonderful shoots once the magazine is out. After such a frenzy, Eleste shared with us that she was inspired to become a full-time model. We were totally behind her in this. She spilled that she would probably start it off small, bearing the hope that some agency would see her photoshoot and approach her for a contract. We also suggested that she could also take the first step by looking for model agencies that were willing to give her a chance. We were all sure that she would make it big if she worked hard.

I guess that's all right now, i will come back again to talk about christmas!

#7 CROP TEES AND HIGH-WAIST PANTS

Ohmygosh, the year is ending and my last post was in june? Yack.
Anyway, long long post to make up for it!

Let's see, this post is going to be about shopping again! And this time, the new place is D'orrie! It was on some lazy sunday when Ennen, Rebe and i found this fabulous shop by chance. While walking down the street leading to Starbucks, we took the longer route as Rebe wanted to drop by the postbox for her letter, and we saw IT! D'orrie is this rather funny-looking store on the outside, with its huge, dramatic posters of movies like Moulin Rouge, Marie Antoinette etc. In store, we got another shock at how abstract the interior was, we saw old Barney tags in one corner, and a cupboard of Transformers figurines on the other. We weren't exactly impressed but we still ventured further in when we were greeted by a friendly looking lady. She noticed our expressions, and gladly explained that it was the owner's wish to decorate the shop with things she loved. She also added on that everything here was designed and inspired from the things she loved.

And, the clothes were wonderfully perfect. Due to the owner's obsession over ribbons, we had a corner specially dedicated to such apparels. Anything, you name it. Things that caught my eye and which i bought, includes a cute gold ribbon charm, a crop tee with a pink bow attached, and a denim pair of ribbon paper shorts. Vintage items occupied a huge corner of the shop, much to Rebe's delight ;) She also managed to find the ASOS bronze wheel earrings she misplaced the other day. Ennen didn't leave empty-handed too, she got a pair of teal high-waist shorts ;) Of course, we left the shop feeling absolutely satisfied and ready for Starbucks :)

Just a small shopping trip before we had to fully work on the upcoming tests. I felt really really confident for environmental studies, as Ms Ortiz has been the most amazing teacher ever. And something sweet happened! We found out that Ms Ortiz was dating Dallia's eldest brother, Douglas! And they have also been working together on a new environmental project to reduce carbon emissions, cool ;)

And how could i not mention this? While hanging out with Rebe, Dallia, Ennen and her elder sister, Eleste, we were approached by a model talent agent! Apparently, he felt that Eleste has what it takes to be a model. And this belief is definitely not based on thin air. Eleste is tall and has sharp facial features, like her hollow brown eyes, and high cheekbones. It was no wonder that she was spotted. While the agent passed us his name card, and continued about how Eleste would do great in the modeling agency, i looked over at the card and gasped. Seventeen. Now this was absolutely high-profile and no joke. Eleste was on her way to the cover of Seventeen! When the agent left, i informed the others, and Eleste became slightly light-headed. Of course, i wouldn't be breathing anymore if i were in her shoes. Then again, a self-note: I could never make it with my dull asian features. Nonetheless, i was equally thrilled at the news and we promised to tag along for her auditions. A week or so later, Eleste received a phone call that she was due for the audition on 1st December. They were choosing around 8 models out of those who were scouted to do a photoshoot for the Christmas season. Three lucky ones were also to be given a two-year contract with the mag and do an advertisement for the new Guess winter clogs. It was all too unbelievable and i could barely wait for December to arrive.

And not forgetting, HALLOWEEN! This spooky occasion was celebrated at my parents' cottage house down the road with Rebe, Dallia, Ennen, Maycee and Ashley ;) And all of us were dressed to scare, in a literal sense. I was dressed as a corpse bride, in this old almost yellow bridal dress i picked up in the local departmental store, along with my black lips and dracula teeth, my hair was purposely frizzed up to serve the purpose. Rebe never fails to look cute in everything she wears, and in this occasion, she was dressed as a fallen fairy. She wore a black gothic sleeveless dress with lacey frills at the bottom and ended it off with a pair of knee high black corset-like boots. And on her head, a broken halo. Dallia was a vampire, yes, undoubtedly inspired from her craze over the Vampire Diaries, but she still looked pretty cool in a black and red collared long-sleeved short dress, her fangs and her thick black make-up. Ennen, as a pirate, was the most evil-looking of us all. In her ripped long-sleeved black shirt, and even more ripped black baggy jeans, she adorned herself with heavy metal chains and grey patchwork and nautical stripes high socks. Not forgetting, the eye patch over her left eye and a cool brown pirate hat. Maycee, who surprisingly agreed to join in this event this year, although she claimed that she still had chores, allowed us to dress her up simply with a witch robe and a witch hat from the basement. Some make-up and dark lips did the trick though. Ashley came in a simple orange and black striped tube dress and sheer leggings. She pulled this outfit off with her devil horns headband, cute!

We hung out for a bit, and went trick-or-treat door by door after that. It was definitely a fun night, with some residents even going to the extent of getting a coffin at their backyard as part of the deco. And of course, we saw some Frankensteins and some Harry Potters, and other weird but good get-ups. We enjoyed a great meal back home, thanks to Maycee, her pumpkin cakes are awesome! And yes, Halloween ended quite simply after that.

    That's all for now!
